ASRHAE recently announced that a new Advanced Energy Design Guide (AEDG) is available. The “AEDG for Small Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities” becomes the sixth addition to the AEDG series. It is a collaboration between industry organizations including ASHRAE, USGBC, DOE, IES and AIA. The purpose of the guide is to recommend means and methods for achieving a 30% energy savings over minimum code requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-1999.
The guide covers numerous types of facilities including outpatient surgery, acute care, and other applicable facilities up to 90,000 ft2. Since healthcare facilities typically use more energy than other building types (refer to Commercial Energy Building Consumption Survey at www.eia.doe.gov), it is important to take advantage of these energy saving methods which will enable all trades to reduce energy usage without having to perform time consuming calculations and analysis. This AEDG series is free to download at the ashrae.org website.
