The day I wrote this article two important events took place in the ASHRAE calendar. The first event was the last day of CRC 2010 and the other, the Bill Dillard Appreciation Night. As I look back at both these events, I see two events so entirely different but in the same breath, both so surprisingly similar.
The Bill Dillard Appreciation Night was simply a fantastic tribute to a great ASHRAE guy. A classic toast and roast, 10 of Bill’s close buddies sang his praises, but also grilled the guy to the hilt. What struck me the most was the ASHRAE camaraderie. Four of the ten speakers were Central Florida Past Presidents, with the master of ceremonies (John Elsea) and ASHRAE Society Past President (Gordon Holness) adding to the mix. They all related on a very personal level with ASHRAE as the bonding agent.
This very same camaraderie was so apparent in CRC 2010. The next generation of ASHRAE all worked together, and had fun together, in what made CRC 2010 a huge success. ASHRAE Central Florida came away with a host of awards and topped it off with the BEST CHAPTER 2009-2010 in Region XII. This makes it five years in a row, a truly remarkable achievement for our chapter. I personally left the awards dinner with a renewed commitment to this chapter and all its great VOLUNTEERS.
I AM PROUD TO BE AN ASHRAE VOLUNTEER!
