ASHRAE Technology – Chapter Programs (9/5)

Welcome to a new year, ASHRAE Central Florida!

Your Board of Governors has been working overtime preparing an exciting calendar for the upcoming year that will have something for everybody. This year we have chosen technical programs for you that reach out to all aspects of our industry and provide real value to your membership and involvement with the ASHRAE Central Florida Chapter.

We will be starting this year off with a bang by welcoming back former ASHRAE Society President Gordon Holness, PE Mr. Holness will be bringing to life ASHRAE’s new Advanced Building Labeling System also known as Building EQ. ASHRAE is working hard to develop a function scale that can quantitatively grade a building’s performance. The goal of this is to provide additional value to building owners by not only promoting responsible design practices, but also encouraging proper building operation through ongoing commissioning. Additional program information can be found at http://www.buildingeq.com.

In addition to this month’s program, we will be providing value toyou, the Central Florida Chapter member, by providing additional technical presentations covering the validation of building models, business communications, energy analysis, and building envelope & pressurization. Our chapter will also have the opportunity this year to proudly host ASHRAE’s first female president, Lynn Bellenger, PE, coming this May. Lynn will be sharing her presidential theme with our chapter, “Modeling a Sustainable World”.

In addition, the Central Florida chapter will continue to expand upon our successful YEA Tech topics, providing pertinent and useful information to our students and emerging engineers. Our YEA committee chair, Leonardo Rocha, has been assembling speakers that will present on the evening’s main program and demonstrate how to apply the information dispensed during the technical dinner presentation.

I am proud to have the opportunity to serve you this year as an ASHRAE Volunteer and as your chapter’s President-Elect and Programs chair. I look forward to ensuring you receive the most out of your time with us every month and at all of our exciting activities throughout the 2010-2011 year

By, John Miller – President Elect & Programs Chair, 2010-2011
