YEA – A Demographic with a Purpose (9/4)

As your Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Chair for Central Florida ASHRAE, I welcome you to a new year. For 2010- 2011, the chapter has put together industry tours, tech topic sessions, is continuing our local mentorship program, the 2nd Annual YEA Dodgeball Tournament, and a few surprises. To start, we will have three industry tours of local facilities where our members can have an up close look at a thermal storage, district cooling and central energy plants. Tour dates will begin in November and all our members are welcome to attend. For this year, the tech topic sessions will cover energy modeling cases of buildings and equipment. The tech topic sessions give YEA members an insightful look to the main speaker’s topic and the opportunity to network with the young local professionals from our chapter.

Our mentorship program will continue this year with the recruitment of additional mentors and mentees. This mentorship program creates a professional partnership between a YEA member, whether it be a young engineer, recent graduate, or student and a professional member from our chapter. The experienced professional provides assistance and resources for the transition from college to the work industry (such as interview preparation, career path guidance, professional development, and much more). For this year, we are looking to form five groups (each group consists of one mentor and one mentee).

Every member of this chapter can participate in this program. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or mentee, pleaseforward an email to lrocha@thermal-techinc.com, expressing your interest in this program. An application will be sent to you, complete and return it promptly to the email above. The local chapter membership chair and YEA Chair will contact you with a follow up interview.
