Greetings from ASHRAE Central Florida!

ASHRAE Central Florida had an awesome year in 2005/2006!  Thanks to the hard work of so many great volunteers last year, our chapter was honored with Best Chapter, Region XII at the Chapter Regional Conference in Ft. Myers on August 19th.  We’re looking forward to an exciting 2006/2007 and have some important news to share!

First, our meetings will continue to take place at Historic Dubsdread Golf Course.  It’s a great venue with excellent atmosphere and great food.

Second, registration for the ASHRAE meetings remains available through our web site at www.ashrae-cfl.com and Paypal is still available for those who wish to RSVP and pay online.  We are also offering an incentive for pre-payment for the season.  Register and pay for all eight meetings up front and receive a $25.00 discount (equal to one free meeting)!

Third, our meeting schedule has changed to the second Thursday of each month!  We have exciting meetings planned and also have some later in the year that are tentative.  So, if you have a subject that you would like to learn about and have a speaker that you would like to suggest email me at mdillard@msifla.com.  It’s your chapter and we value your input!  Here’s a look at what’s in the schedule for  this year:

  • September 14th - Michael Sasso, Esquire, of Michael C. Sasso P.A. will speak on the legal challenges we face in design and construction and what you can do to mitigate risk.

  • October 12th - Patrick Paris of Paris Webb Consulting, Inc., Energy Manager for Publix Supermarkets (Florida’s single largest purchaser of electricity!) will speak on energy policy and strategies.

  • November 9th - Mike Hess will update us on Sustainable Construction, the central theme of ASHRAE Society President, Terry Townsend’s presidency.  This will be a joint meeting with the members of the USGBC.

  • December 14th – we’re working on a special event for the holidays…more information to come!

  • In 2007, we’re working to book a speaker from NASA, we’ll have the Shrimp Boil in March and we’ll honor past Chapter Presidents in April!

So, plan on helping ASHRAE Central Florida win Best Chapter again next year by attending meetings, participating in chapter activities and most of all…supporting research promotion!!!

See you Thursday September 14th!

President's Message

Thanks to all of our loyal Chapter Members that attended the May meeting to witness the installation of out new Central Florida Chapter Officers and  Board of Governors.

It is with great gratification and anticipation, that I accept this new role as President of the Central Florida Chapter of ASHRAE.

When I relocated from Tampa to Orlando, four short years ago, the first item on my agenda was to attend a Central Florida ASHRAE Board meeting. It was at this meeting, I fully valued the importance of being an ASHRAE member.   The first thing I realized was that I knew almost everyone at the meeting. And secondly, I was immediately received and welcomed into the Central Florida Chapter by my ASRAE brethren. In my few short year as a member of this Chapter, I quickly realized what a great core group of dedicated individuals we have.

Being an ASHRAE member provides many benefits, on so many different levels. Whether it be technical guidance, educational advancements, personal and professional development, networking, or simply making new friends, ASHRAE will provide something beneficial or everyone.  Some of the best friends I have today, are a result of my ASHRAE involvement.

I am very pleased with the commitment from all our Chapter Officers, Board of Governors and Committee Chairs. We have had every person  from last year,   recommit for service for the 2006-2007 year. It says volumes about our Chapter to have such continuity within the ranks.

The heart and soul of ASHRAE is it’s membership. And as it is with any undertaking, ASHRAE is what you make of it.  The single biggest contribution that anyone can make to ASHRAE, and to the Profession that provides for you and yours, is to participate…. in any manner… or on any level. . even if it is just making a commitment to attend our monthly meetings.   I know that we have a lot of good people, working very hard for our ASHRAE Chapter and its members. It can tell you it make us all feel very rewarded when we  get a large turn out at our local meetings.  Currently our average attendance is about 64 people per meeting.     I would love to see, once again, attendance of 100 plus members at our meetings.  With our members help, this can easily be accomplished.

We have a lot of work to do this summer  to prepare for the new ASHRAE year. The Chapter Regional Conference (CRC) planning meeting in June, Local Chapter Board meetings during June,  July and August, a local Chapter planning meeting,  and the CRC meeting in August.  A lot of quality work, performed by a lot of quality people, performed  all for our membership.

So with that said, I invite you all to come out,  be an active participant in our Central Florida Chapter. Give a something back to our Society and your Chapter that provide so much opportunity, for all our members.
