Past Student Trips to ASHRAE Meetings 2006 - Chicago - UCFBy Leonardo Rocha In January of 2006, the student officers of the ASHRAE-UCF student branch had the honor and opportunity to attend the winter meeting in Chicago, IL. It was a memorable experience for all of the students who attended this meeting because it opened the door to a world of opportunities in the HVAC field. During our stay, I met outstanding professional ASHRAE members from Canada, Japan, Taiwan, India, and from different parts of the United States of America. The professional members were so thrilled to have students present for the winter meeting. They shared their success stories and experience. The also gave great advice for starting a career in this field that pushes forward every year, whether I enter the sales, design, or contracting sides of it. We also had the opportunity to attend the AHR Expo, where the entire HVAC industry gather to present the latest in HVAC equipment and design solutions. Touring the city of Chicago was memorable to us; personally, it was my first visit to Chicago. We toured the downtown area, visited the Sears tower, had an authentic Chicago style deep-dish pizza, and spent some quality time experiencing the nightlife of this booming city. After attending the 2006 winter meeting, my career path was already decided. I wanted to join a work field that strives for a better tomorrow by serving a community with the latest in technology and design solutions. Now, I am an LEMT trainee for Harper Limbach, a mechanical contractor; Megan Tosh joined Stan Weaver and Co. as a manufacturer representative; and Ben Walton is an application specialist for Trane. All in all, our visit to Chicago would not been realized without the help and collaboration of ASHRAE CFC. I believe that all of the student officers of the 2005-2006 ASHRAE-UCF student chapter would agree that we are forever indebted to this organization.
